Miles for Miley - Day 1
Just waiting for a few stragglers... or maybe they've backed out.
Everybody is here! And we're off!
Van trouble... already! A bit of Adblue and all is well.
Quick break in Distington. All refreshed and eager to get going again.
Another break in Workington, outside Opera Bingo. A few blisters starting to appear, but we're keeping good pace. And it's a perfect day for it! Getting plenty of support along the way.
A quick refreshment break at New Balance - and a quick run in for a fresh, more comfortable, pair of walking shoes. The fatigue is starting to show now.
It was then on to flimby, where we had some much appreciated cheering on. And thank you so much to the lady who pulled over and gave us ice lollies - it was a much needed morale boost.
Lunch!! We made it to The Thomas Henry, Maryport! That's just over half way for the day. A few photos and a chat with a nice gentleman from the Times and Star, and we set off again.
We arrived at Allonby school to cheers from Miley's classmates and friends. The school put snacks and refreshments out for us, and all the children were happy to see us.
We then went for a quick drink in Jack's Surf Bar, who have raised a lot of money for us over the past few months.
Onwards to Abbeytown!
We reached Abbeytown! Or, slightly outside Abbeytown. It was a very long day and we were all struggling towards the end. But, we all made it. And in time for a pint in The Wheatsheaf, before heading home to nurse our feet.
A huge thank you to Mr Owen from Allonby school for joining us all day today, and to Trafford Todd, Sam Alexander, and Nicola Ostle (and the dogs, of course) for joining us on the Maryport to Allonby leg.
Bring on day 2!
